Getting Social: Using CDC's Guidelines for Incorporating Social Media in your Public Health Program

This training will review two key Social Media resources: CDC's "Social Media Toolkit" and the CDC "Guide to Writing for Social Media."
The Social Media Toolkit
was designed to provide guidance and to share lessons learned in more than three years of integrating social media into CDC health communication campaigns, activities, and emergency response efforts.
CDC’s Guide to Writing for Social Media
was written to provide guidance and share the lessons learned in more than three years of creating social media messages in CDC health communication campaigns, activities, and emergency response efforts.
1. Be familiar with CDC's Social Media Toolkit and Guide to Writing Social Media.
2. Understand the principles of effective social media writing.
3. Know how to write for Facebook and Twitter.
4. Use web content as source material for social media content.

Her research specializations include the social web, digitization, genealogy, history, and public records. Her web specializations include database development, information architecture, content strategy, and social media integration. Colleen regularly presents and teaches on social media and emerging technologies topics.
